Vanguards, as the name implies, are usually your starting deployments during combat. Their skills mostly assist the regeneration of [[File:Stat-cost.png|18px|link=]] cost, which lets you deploy the rest of the team faster. In some maps, you may find yourself requiring their use as there are special mechanics that either slow down natural [[File:Stat-cost.png|18px|link=]]  cost regeneration, or stop them completely. On these cases, vanguards will really save your game.

Vanguard Operators help with battlefield deployment.
They are usually the first operators onto the battlefield. They normally have a lower deployment cost than operators of other classes, and have skills or abilities that add more Deployment Points.

The first enemies into the battle typically have low defense and attack power, meaning that Vanguard Operators are enough to contain or kill them, paving the way for more powerful, more expensive teammates.
Vanguard Operators are not good at blocking, however, and may not be able to handle the tide of enemies that come in the midgame.
